CAADV partner with the London team who have won numerous “Team of the Year” designations, and work on innovative deals that have been recognised as industry or regional “Deal of the Year”. Reason for joining CAADV Milbank became a member of CAADV in June 2011. They felt it was important to address domestic abuse because they believe there is a corporate social responsibility to do so, and they wanted to set a good example to other organisations. They also believe there are tangible business benefits to joining, such as reduced cost and increased competitive advantage.
One of their lead partners Cathy Marsh, who herself has first-hand experience of domestic abuse, spear headed the initiative.
“I endured domestic abuse after I split from a partner when I was at the beginning of my career. Instead of being the strong, capable, “deal with anything and anyone” person that is my normal self, I was a complete emotional wreck. It was partly thanks to my employer at the time that I managed to get through this difficult time and excel within my career.

CAADV have delivered
In partnership with Milbank, CAADV organised a launch event at the end of June. This included an impactful introduction from Cathy Marsh who disclosed her experience of abuse, emphasising how it can happen to anyone, and an overview of CAADV from Patron of CAADV, Baroness Patricia Scotland QC.
In conjunction with the launch CAADV provided a communication tool kit including co-branded posters and an intranet site for employees to visit for help and advice. They also implemented an HR policy for domestic violence.
In September, CAADV will be training a select group of Milbank employees on how to support other employees enduring abuse, and will provide them with a bespoke tool kit to do so.
The impact
“We wanted our employees to know that we were there for them if they needed support and we wanted to get them talking, challenging and thinking about a normally quite ‘taboo’ topic. With the launch and communications this was achieved and I have since heard very positive messages about our involvement from several employees.
From a corporate perspective we wanted to demonstrate to our clients how forward looking we are and how we don’t just talk about things, we actually put them into practice.”
