EDV Global Foundation launches ‘For the Women in My Life’ campaign to help tackle domestic violence
24th November 2011
The Eliminate Domestic Violence Global Foundation (EDV Global Foundation) will today launch the ‘For the Women in My Life’ campaign, to recognise and celebrate the significant contributions women have made to our lives and society as a whole.
As part of the campaign, EDV Global Foundation is inviting supporters to upload a photo of a woman they care about and explain why they are special through an action on the Orange Do Some Good mobile app. The role models selected can range from a family member to a friend to a co-worker.
The Rt Hon Baroness Scotland of Asthal QC, Patron of EDV Global Foundation, said:
“Over the years I have been fortunate to meet many great women, who have each, in their own way, made an indelible imprint on my personal and professional life. One in four women in the UK is affected by domestic violence in their lifetime, which means, statistically, some of the women we know and care for have been touched by this atrocious crime.”
“I hope this campaign empowers every woman selected to realise that they are loved, valued and most importantly, not without support. It is through working together that we can be part of the solution to eliminate domestic violence, and ensure that every woman is treated with the care, love, respect and attention that each is entitled to. ”
Deborah Jamieson, Chief Executive Officer of EDV Global Foundation, added:
“In the 21st century, it is hard to believe that domestic violence is still a much neglected subject. In the majority of cases, a woman will suffer in silence whilst her close friends and family members may not realise what is happening. Although many advances have been made to reach out and protect women and young girls, there is still more that can be done to raise awareness of this crime, and to reduce the human cost of domestic violence.”
The ‘For the Women in My Life’ campaign will open now until March 2012 and some of the photos will be used in an exhibition. There will also be awards selected by a panel for best photograph, greatest impact, and most heartfelt narrative, which will take place in March 2012.
To take part in the ‘For the Women in My Life campaign’, supporters should download the Orange Do Some Good app from www.orange.co.uk/DoSomeGood.
